Présentation Collège Maryse Condé
12 nov. 2020The Maryse Condé college is located on the island of La Désirade which belongs to the Guadeloupe archipelago (FWI) The island of La Désirade is inhabited by approximately 1500 inhabitants. It is located 40 minutes by boat from the main island. Fishing is the dominant activity and tourism somewhat supplements the income of the inhabitants. It is an island with a very rich biodiversity for fauna and flora.
Two national reserves are attached to it:
• The Petite Terre nature reserve
• La Désirade geological reserve
The college is very small, it welcomes about fifty students from 11 to 15 years old. It was rebuilt in 1994/1995, following the passage of Hurricane Hugo. It is an imposing construction that can be seen on the hillside. It receives students from the six sections of the island .
It is named after Maryse Condé, a famous Guadeloupean writer who won the Nobel Prize for Alternative Literature in 2018.
Two languages are taught there, Spanish and English. The discovery and protection of the environment are dominant subjects in education.
