ITA22 CIEE- Wine production in Pachino
26 juin 2023The students first learned in class about the chemical composition of the different types of soil found in the countryside around Pachino. Later they learned about the main Sicilian vines, both white and red, focusing above all on the presence and history of the Nero d'Avola that is produced in our area. They then talked about the various winemaking techniques and finally met one of the major wine producers in our city, knowing not only the history of his cellar, but above all the passion and tradition that is in the production of our red.
The Rudinì winery has been operating in the wine sector for about 50 years. Founded by Saro Di Pietro, it is just outside Pachino on the road to Marzamemi., where a team of professionals works daily by combining the traditional techniques of the art of winemaking with the most up-to-date winemaking techniques.
Rudinì draws its grapes from over 200 hectares of the most qualified vineyards that extend around Pachino. Nero d’Avola is the native vine of this lucky production area, today protected by the Denomination of Controlled Origin in the “Eloro Pachino” typology: the only DOC for Nero d’Avola. Recognized as the most famous Sicilian vine in the world, it has been cultivated since ancient times in this small part of land between the cities of Pachino, Rosolini, Noto and Ispica. It is here, in these sweet hills with an arid and dry climate, with high maximum and average temperatures and one of the highest sun exposure in Europe, that Nero d’Avola has always expressed its best
