ITS23 AA Cultural visit to Catania
02 avr. 2023Students from Slovakia started the first day of our educational activity early in the morning on our way to the airport in Vienna, from where we flew to the island of Sicily. They started exploring the cultural monuments of Catania, the second largest city in Sicily after Palermo. Teachers prepared the sightseeing tour and each student had to prepare the information about one chosen historical site and present it to thegroup. The sunny weather accompanied them the whole time and the local specialties (granita, aranchini, pasta or spaghetti) gave themstrength. They walked a lot, about 15kms during the whole day . Mount Etna showed itself proudly among the buildings in places, and in every story of a historical building or place it showed the strength of its character. Students visited monuments such as: Teatro Massimo Bellini, Villa Bellini, Plazza di Duomo, Church of St. Agatha (patroness of the city), Porta Garibaldi, Amfiteatro Romano-Greco, Pescheria(fish market), Via Etnea. Palazzo Biscari. From Catania, they had a two-hour journey along the eastern coast far to the south. In Pachinothey were welcomed by children, parents and teachers.
Students had to look for the information on the internet, choose the most important one and make a summary, then they presented it whilevisiting the site. This developed their cultural awareness and general knowledge. They enjoyed the day, although they walked a lot. However, Catania is really worth seeing.
