CLM Discovery of the local flora and its medicinal uses
06 mai 2023More than 650 medicinal plants (Rimed Razié in creole) are used in Guadeloupe, from their leaves, to their roots, or even in infusion. In class with their French teacher, the students created a herbarium, made with drawings and texts. The students had to collect information from their families (grandparents for example) on the traditional uses of the plants available on the island. They had to learn the names of all chosen plants in French, scientific and vernacular language (Creole). This topic was combine with a treasure hunt organized on the eastern part of the island. Students had to recognize the plants at first glance and tell what each of them are use for. During another outing at the Science Festival they were about to extend their knoledge on the medicinal plants topic. The activity was led by a botanical student at the University of Fouillole Antilles Guyane.
