CMST Electric lighting from solar energy in La Désirade
06 mai 2023In Technology classes, 6th grade students worked on solar energy. They therefore learned how solar energy, a renewable energy, is produced. They worked on acquiring skills within the scientific and technological fields. A tangible approach was used. They began by taking photographs of the different uses of solar energy on the island. Their findings were: - A) a cold room (Cryo solar) used by professional fishermen. Invented by the company Valorem, it was installed on January 2021. This cold room is completely autonomous. - B) The electric vehicles charging by terminals powered by photovoltaic energy. The roof of the electric car is covered with solar panels which produce electricity to recharge its batteries. Clean vehicles are made available for tourists. - C) Part of the city lighting. In order to reduce electricity costs, part of the public lighting is now powered by the sun. - D) The electricity of the light house of Petite Terre Reserve. Students then made proposals for alternative uses such as the supply of the school electrical network by solar panels installed on the roof of the building.
