CLE: CLIL Geography
06 oct. 2021The CLIL method is often used in our lessons. It is a good way to learn a language - to join theory and practice. The 6th graders discussed the topic “country” on English lessons. They worked with the expressions such as mountain, river, lake, valley, forest and the like. They decided to use the vocabulary and make 3D CLIL map of Slovakia. In their work, they applied not only the English language, but also their creativity, fine art and teamwork.
They shared the tasks: some students modelled mountains and hills, others created flags of neighbouring countries and others drew neighbouring countries, rivers, lowlands, towns or reservoirs on the map. The result is the 3D CLIL map of Slovakia, which also includes the names of the parts of the country in English, or a 3D model of a church located in a place that is the centre of Europe. The aim of the activity was to learn new vocabulary and have fun learning it. Pupils had to describe the map and talk about the places they put into the map. This way they developed their presenting skills and foreign language too.
