The students visited the Waste Recycling Center of the island. They had to find out how the recycling waste route works. La Désirade being a small island, specific questions arose on the management of the waste produced. Six employees work at the waste collection center to collect wastes in the sorting terminals placed all over the island. Sorted wastes are transported by barge to the various service providers in mainland Guadeloupe. They discovered the different containers for recovering cooking oil, mechanical oil, etc. There are two sorting spaces which are: • Sorting and Waste • Cardboard and Plastic. The different containers are: – Small electrical appliances –The Scrap Dumpster –The Dumpster for all waste –WEEE (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment) –The tire tray –Plastic containers: On the island, the plastic is collected every other week. –The cardboard container placed next to the Cardboard, plastic and can press. Dozens of tons of waste are collected every week. Our Waste Center is equipped with a wrapper, it is a machine that crushes the waste in order to make "balls" wrapped in plastic film. These balls can be kept inside the Waste Recycling Center for a very long time. This device allows the Agents of the Recycling Center to store the waste and avoids their transportation. Since sorting is not carried out in all households, the machine cannot always be used.

Two days of waste collection were also organized on the site of the Désirade geological reserve.
